This strains form the power dynamic that exist between teachers and their students. Open dialogue is integral to Freire's pedagogy because it creates hope. When oppressed people have hope that their situation can change, or that oppression isn't permanent, they are more likely to engage in revolution and find patience for the fight. The pedagogy itself has two stages: in the first stage the oppressed "unveil" the world of oppression and commit themselves to its change. In the second stage, the oppressed begin the process of "permanent liberation." In other words, in the first stage, the pedagogy helps the oppressed change their perception of the world.
